A few weeks ago, at a social event, I was asked by a half-interested gentleman-as he devoured yet another 'pig-in-a-blanket - the ubiquitous question: "So, what do you do for a living."
If only I had a dollar for every time someone asked me that.
Better yet, I'd settle for a nickel for every time my reply left them with crooked eyebrows and a puzzled look - that, until now, I thought only an insurance salesman or a seller of stock derivatives could produce.
You see I am in the 'Building Performance' Industry. I perform property inspections on commercial and residential structures - but, I do it in a way that you (or he) have never heard of . . . we use infrared thermal imagers (cameras) just as a Doctor uses an MRI to 'look inside' and tell you what ails you.
RODNEY DANGERFIELD
Much like Rodney - until recent years - we certified thermographers suffered from the IDGNR SYNDROME ("I don't get no respect"). We have been the best-kept secret in the Building Industry.
Had it not been for TV shows like 'Holmes on Homes', CSI,This Old House - or, my favorite (the movie) The Predator - we would still be as invisible or misunderstood as the Wizard of Oz was working his magic behind the curtain.
FIFTY YEARS YOUNG
Infrared Thermal Imaging - the use of an infrared thermal imager (fancy word for a high-tech infrared camera) to find a leak, water intrusion, hidden moisture or broken pipes (that can lead to mold) - or even Heat Loss / or missing insulation in your home - is not a new idea.
Thermography (a.k.a. : "infrared thermal imaging" - has been around since the 1950's. It first found use as 'night vision' in the Korean War - to help the U.S. Army find targets (by finding infrared heat patterns) that the human eye could not see.
Since 1986, our family has Championed the use of an infrared thermal imager as a tool that to ensure our Clients have a living-space or a work space that is safe (no structural deficiencies); healthy (find broken pipes / hidden moisture in walls / or water intrusion leading to mold); and energy-efficient (we uncover heat loss / missing insulation / and pinpoint drafts).
WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?
Best of all, our FLIR State of The Art infrared cameras scan structures in a non-destructive and non-contact fashion.
That saves you time, money and and unnecessary demolition and disturbance to your home, office or your lifestyle.
Infrared Inspections - using thermography- have become the Gold Standard.
For that reason, we encourage you to take advantage of the 'new' technology and 'Stop Guessing . . . and Start Seeing' with InfraVision.
In the weeks ahead I will cover more topics that will explain:
